we do *not*. we believe that bernie madoff is deeply sorry that he got caught. and we believe that madoff has been quietly stashing away millions, if not billions, for years, even through his house arrest. and we also believe that he could not have acted alone. we certainly do not believe that the first his family learned of the scam was this past winter, as federal investigators were poised to swooped in. we also believe that there's merit to the argument that the federal government, receiving income taxes on the nonexistent incomes of the thousands that madoff bilked, was one of the (if not the) primary beneficiaries of the scheme and ought to assist in restitution.
